We talk to you all the time about scrapping the fast fashion habit, but what makes us better? Why should you wear Essential Noir? What makes us ethical? What is ethical fashion? I’m sure that these are some of the questions that come to your mind when thinking about adding Essential Noir to your wardrobe. So we thought it would be good to write a quick blog post about why you can and should feel happy about buying and wearing Essential Noir.

What is Ethical Fashion?

“Ethical Fashion is an umbrella term to describe ethical fashion design, production, retail, and purchasing. It covers a range of issues such as working conditions, exploitation, fair trade, sustainable production, the environment, and animal welfare” (V&A)

How is Essential Noir Ethical?

We produce slow fashion

What this means is that we produce fewer collections, smaller quantities and what we do produce is not trend led. As a result it’s fashion that is not meant to be thrown away after a few wears. But instead is timeless fashion to be loved and worn for years!

We believe in quality

Because without quality you can’t have slow fashion. It really is the key to true slow fashion and something we feel is lacking in the current culture of fast fashion. You want those wardrobe staples and items you love to last.

We believe in local manufacturing

Local manufacturing is what helps keeping jobs and skills in the country. It helps communities thrive and it is also one of the few ways to be sure of the working conditions of the people making your clothes. We feel it’s crucially important to support local manufacturing and local communities.

We think about where our fabrics come from

We use a lot of British made fabrics as well as other European fabrics. The micro modal used in our Fashion Essentials tops is knitted and dyed in Leicestershire from the environmentally low impact Lenzing yarn that comes from Austria. We also use end of roll fabrics. This means fabrics that have already been produced. These fabrics are not specifically made for us but buying them and creating quality fashion from them stops them from ending up in landfills. These end of roll fabrics make fabulous unique Limited Edition collections.

Finally – What is also important to us is fair and honest pricing. We don’t believe in constant discounts. We don’t believe in undervaluing our product. We don’t believe in overproducing. We don’t believe in throw away fashion. We believe in paying a fair price for materials and manufacturing. We believe in producing beautiful quality fashion and timeless wardrobe staples that will last and make you feel amazing! Fashion that you will want to reach out to time and time again!
